Get Your Mower Ready for Fall

The summer heat may still be burning bright, but fall is thankfully right around the corner, bringing relief to our air conditioners and our lawns. There’s no question that the bright sun and soaring temperatures take a toll on even the most conditioned Florida lawns, but as the days get shorter and the air gets a little cooler, it’s time to let our grass take a breather.

Just as we do in the spring, there are certain steps every homeowner can take to help keep that grass tidy and green throughout the rest of the year. Here are a couple of tips to help you prepare your lawn and your mower for September and beyond:

  1. It’s almost time to lower your blades again. During the summer, we recommended that you raise your lawn mower blades by a few inches to help your grass retain water and essential nutrients, even when the sun is beating down too heavily for comfort. Thankfully, you’ll soon be able to lower your blades again and cut the grass less often. Time to reclaim your weekends!

  2. Tighten up your fasteners. Rigorous use throughout the summer can add a good deal of wear and tear to your mower. As the engine runs, all the fasteners throughout your mower tend to shake loose, leaving you prone to inconvenient breakages or worse. Take the time to tighten up the fasteners to keep your mower in running condition.

  3. Give your mower a good cleaning. The more grass you cut during the season, the more debris gets stuck in the blades and throughout the chassis, which can make your mower run slower or cause certain components to wear out. Give your mower a thorough cleaning, pulling the mulch out from all the crevices and lubricating the parts that need it. Your lawn will thank you.

While all these tips are great for an experienced do-it-yourselfer, the easiest and most failsafe option for you is to bring your mower to a team of experts.
