We’re Thankful for our Healthy Lawns This November

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been spending a lot of extra time in your yard this year. Gardening and landscaping has provided a much-needed, healthy pastime, giving us the opportunity to get out of our homes and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine while staying safe. 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, but we do still have plenty to be thankful for this November--particularly our lawns.

Of course, our lawns are beautiful to look at. After we put so much meticulous care into our landscaping, it’s a pleasure to stand back and survey our awesome work. But our lawns provide many more benefits beyond aesthetics. Here are just a few:

A healthy lawn helps protect your yard from erosion. Erosion can be a serious environmental issue when left unchecked, and it can happen to plots of land large and small. A healthy lawn with a strong root structure is the best way to save your yard from the destruction that wind and rain can bring. Remember to seed your lawn with native grass species, as they do the most to promote soil stability.

Your lawn helps keep you cool in the heat of summer. Here in Longwood, we know hot summers. Did you know that healthy grass can actually help lower the ambient temperature? Grass absorbs some of the energy of the sun’s heat to use in the photosynthesis process. It also releases water throughout the day in the process of transpiration. That’s why grass feels so cool under foot even on a hot day.

Grass absorbs noise and air pollutants. Do you know why you often see grass on the slopes beside expressways? Grass helps to lower the noise pollution of heavy traffic. Similarly, your healthy lawn can help reduce street noise and make your house more comfortable to live in. Grass also absorbs common air pollutants like carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide, improving the overall air quality surrounding our homes. Better air quality means healthier families and children!

This November, we’re also thankful for the opportunity to continue serving as Longwood’s Parts People. We sincerely appreciate your business and look forward to continuing to supply you with the best parts and service for years to come. What are you thankful for this year? Tell us in the comments, and call Gator Mower Parts at 407-260-1292 to find out more about what we offer.
