3 Lawn Mower Resolutions for the New Year

If you’re anything like us, you’re in disbelief that it’s already December; but the decorated trees and festive lights everywhere tell us that it must be true. We have officially entered the winter, and the year is coming to a close. While we put the finishing touches on our shopping lists and prepare the menu for the big family dinner, many of us are looking forward to the new year.

This time around, make a commitment to put a few lawn mower resolutions on your list. We guarantee you’ll love spending 2017 with a beautiful lawn, thanks to your mower being in perfect condition. Here are our top 3 resolutions:

  1. I will check the oil and change it as needed. Anyone with a lawn mower knows how to tell when the gas is out, and we guarantee they know how to refill the tank. However, too many homeowners leave the oil untouched, and much like when you don’t change a car’s oil, your mower is sure to run into some problems. If your mower oil looks black or has a lot of debris, it’s time to change it out.

  2. I will clean old grass clippings off of my mower. Once your day’s work is done and you’re putting your mower back in the shed, it’s so tempting to just leave it as is - after all, the next time you take it out, it’s just going to get grassy again, right? Actually, if you let old grass clippings gunk up the undercarriage, your mower may not be able to properly discharge debris. Clean up after each use for best results!

  3. I will keep my mower blades sharpened. We’ve discussed before how letting your blades get dull can be bad news for your grass. When blades dull, they tear at the grass instead of cutting it, leaving a jagged silhouette and stealing precious nutrients from your lawn. Getting the blades sharpened is easy; any of the professionals at Gator can get it done for you.

There are so many other things you can do to make sure your mower stays in good working order and has a long, fulfilled lifetime. If you want more suggestions on your regular maintenance schedule, or some help getting the job done, Gator is here for you!
